Title: Instagram Profile Hacking (Ethical!)
We all have heard the old saying, “Don’t reinvent the wheel.” While we all have heard this, how often do we fail to apply it? I imagine that the answer to this is “often!” And this holds true for Instagram too! Sometimes, the easiest way to build your Instagram presence is to ethically research and (ethically!) copy their best practices. Let’s go!
Find The Crème de la Crème In Your Niche
Before you can research the top accounts in your niche, you have to know them! Take some time to research the top accounts in your niche. You will need to look at things like the biggest accounts in your niche (follower wise). Also make sure that their engagement rate is good, since inorganic followers do not like, comment, or share content from other accounts. A good tool like Hype Auditor will help show you the details mentions above. I recommend finding the top two to four accounts in your niche and focus your attention on them. Once you have your list, then you are ready glean from their profiles.
Your Crème de la Crème’s Content And Profile Name
Depending on your niche, the amount of content that your crème de la crème produces is key. If they post once a day, then emulate them. If they only post every other day, then I’d recommend posting once per day.
Other niches, like mine (motivation, investing, business), top accounts post up to 14 times per day. But usually once or twice daily, if it is quality content, is enough for your main Instagram feed.
Next, take a moment and look at their profile usernames. They typically, depending on the niche and account type (link to the previous article), will spell out benefits that one will get by following them. They will also differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack, be easily recognizable, and will stand out from within a niche that creates countless new pages every day.
Your Crème de la Crème’s Logo And Bio
The next thing is to look at your niche’s top accounts logo (for my article on creating your logo, click here). Most of the time, depending on your niche, of course, a simple plain background with a typeface logo will suffice to create the brand presence that you need for your Instagram account. Simplicity and effectiveness usually win the day!
It is also key to look your niches’ leaders Instagram bio (see my article on setting your up Instagram bio here). Regardless of your niche, often you will see that the leaders within any niche have a short but strong message in their bio. These usually are organized with a simple bullet point or emojis that are appropriate for your brand’s image.
That’s it! You do not have to reinvent the wheel to set up your Instagram profile. But how can you get started applying these steps? Jeremy McGilvrey’s Instagram Secrets states that you simply need to log onto Instagram and make a list of the top pages in your niche. Once you have done this, start going through it and looking at the list of things that are listed above.
